Hi, I’m Rob.
I’m a middle school art teacher with over 12 years of experience, and the person behind Rob Teaches Art.
Teaching and Art are two of my favorite things. And there are many things I wish I knew when I started teaching.
That’s exactly why I started this-to share my experience and lessons to fellow teachers and parents!
What This Blog Is About
Rob Teaches Art is built around one idea:
Art lessons should be simple to run, engaging for students, and actually teach real skills.
Everything here is based on what works in a real classroom—not just what looks good online.

My Approach to Teaching Art
I focus on three things:
1. Clear Structure
Students need to know what to do. Good lessons remove confusion.
2. Creative Freedom
Within that structure, students should still be able to make their own choices.
3. Skill Development
Every project should build something—shading, composition, design, or observation.
If a lesson doesn’t do at least one of these well, it’s probably not worth your time.
Why I Create These Resources
Over the years, I’ve seen the same problems come up again and again:
- Lessons that are too complicated to manage
- Activities that don’t engage students
- Resources that look good but don’t translate into real teaching
So I started creating my own.

While most of my experience is in the classroom, these lessons are also designed to work for homeschool settings.
